The 4K HDR Summit brings together the leading figures in UHD ‘made in Spain’, benchmarks in Europe

02/10/2025 | 2025 4k Spain

  • On 28 March 2025, Televisión de Galicia became the first regional broadcaster to broadcast a channel in Ultra High Definition nationwide via DTT.
  • Regional channels such as EITB broadcast content in Ultra High Definition via streaming services on HbbTV.
  • Canal Sur, through its CanalSur Más platform, offers content in 4K, while Telemadrid has a channel broadcasting with HDR technology.
  • The 11th edition will take place from 11 to 14 November, with two face-to-face days (Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12) at the Cartuja Auditorium – managed by Yventu – located in Sevilla TechPark.

Europe is moving towards a new audiovisual horizon and Spain has become an undisputed benchmark thanks to the joint commitment of different players in the sector. Our country has a large number of private companies, public bodies, audiovisual corporations and associations leading different projects that, over time, are consolidating Spain as a pioneer in the implementation of Ultra High Definition (UHD), the standard that marks the present and future of higher quality television.

The eleventh edition of the 4K HDR Summit will bring together the main players who are positioning Spain at the forefront and as a benchmark for Ultra High Definition, not only in Europe but also worldwide. It will take place from 11 to 14 November in Seville. Over four days — two in person at the Cartuja Auditorium in Seville TechPark and two virtual — leaders from the ‘made in Spain’ audiovisual sector will share messages, strategic visions and projects that will shape the immediate future of television and new forms of consumption.

Spanish regional broadcasters at the forefront of UHD

Thanks to the presence of FORTA, a broad representation of Spanish regional television stations will be present at the eleventh edition of the 4K HDR Summit. Among them is Televisión de Galicia, which on 28 March 2025 became the first Spanish regional broadcaster to broadcast a channel in Ultra High Definition nationwide via Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT). This was a milestone in our country with the offer of a UHD signal that, in addition to offering “4K resolution to viewers, has high dynamic range (HDR) with HLG curve, which provides greater contrast, increasing the sharpness of the image,” as explained in an interview with UHD Spain by members of the channel’s management.

Although Televisión de Galicia is the only regional channel that broadcasts regularly in UHD through one of its DTT channels, many other Spanish regional channels are working to promote this technology through streaming and their video-on-demand platforms.

Thus, since June 2025, EiTB, the Basque Country’s regional television station, has been broadcasting Ultra High Definition content on its two main channels, ETB1 and ETB2, via streaming services on HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV, a combination of conventional broadcasts and broadband services). A similar case is that of Canal Sur, the regional television station in Andalusia, which through CanalSur Más offers 4K content such as documentaries on Holy Week, the Cadiz Carnival, El Rocío, Flamenco, among others, produced by Medina Media.

Since 8 February 2024, Telemadrid has had a channel broadcasting in high dynamic range (HDR), which allows viewers to enjoy a better image with an above-average difference in brightness between black and white, better contrast and a much wider colour spectrum.

Once again this year, Spanish regional television stations (FORTA) and their technical directors will take advantage of the 4K HDR Summit to hold a face-to-face Technical Commission meeting to discuss technological advances in Ultra High Definition (UHD) and HDR (High Dynamic Range), which improve the quality of images reaching homes, as well as the exchange of 4K content and its future implementation within their internal communication networks.

The 4K HDR Summit 2025, “Where technology and content have time to talk”, is organised by Medina Media Events and supported by Appear, Ateme, RTVA, Elecard, AJA, Axion, Aicox with Small Pixels, Lawo, UWA, Rohde & Schwarz, SES Astra, Eutelsat, Canon, Cellnex, Gsertel, Hispasat, Alfalite, Netgear, Synamedia, Mome, Datos Media, Sapec and Vestel, among others.

All conferences will be available for viewing on demand through ‘The Observatory’, Medina Media Events’ digital platform, where each conference will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, free of charge.
