  • The new National Technical Plan for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) approved in March 2025 guarantees that citizens will have access to a high-quality, free television experience.
  • TVE’s La 1 was the first DTT channel in the world to begin regular broadcasts in UHD, making Spain a world leader in broadcasting with this technology.
  • The UHD Spain association has made its infrastructure available to all television operators in Spain, both nationally and regionally, to test solutions, validate standards, and facilitate the transition to UHD.
  • The 11th edition of the 4K HDR Summit will take place from November 11 to 14, with two in-person days (Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12) at the Cartuja Auditorium, managed by Yventu.

The regulatory, technological, and market momentum of recent years has positioned Spain as a European leader in Ultra High Definition (UHD). Today, UHD in our country is not the future of television, but a consolidated reality, although there is still a long way to go in terms of innovation.

This leadership will be on display at the 4K HDR Summit 2025, which will celebrate its eleventh edition from November 11 to 14 in Seville. Over four days—two in person at the Cartuja Auditorium in Seville TechPark and two virtual—leaders from the international audiovisual sector will share messages and strategic visions that will shape the immediate future of television and new forms of consumption.

Since 2015, the 4K HDR Summit in Seville has been the leading professional gathering for audiovisual technology and content, and it will become the world’s premier showcase for UHD, with Spain playing a leading role thanks to its advances in 4K, HDR, Immersive Audio, 5G Broadcast, and other cutting-edge technologies. Producers, distributors, operators, broadcasters, engineers, and developers will come together for a program of presentations, demonstrations, and networking that reaffirms Seville as the global epicenter of audiovisual innovation.

The year 2025 will be a turning point for audiovisual technology, driven by the approval of the new National Technical Plan for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), which consolidates Spain as one of the most dynamic drivers in Europe and the world in the development and implementation of UHD.

Spain, a global showcase for UHD

The 4K HDR Summit in Seville will be the largest meeting point for the international audiovisual industry. With a program of presentations, demonstrations, and networking, the summit will allow participants to share experiences, discuss the future of imaging, and show the world the advances that are transforming the way audiovisual content is created and consumed.

In 2025, there will be one common denominator: Spain. A leader in the promotion of Ultra High Definition, in March our country approved the new National Technical Plan for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), a milestone in the industry that establishes the technical and regulatory conditions for the widespread implementation of UHD in Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT). This regulatory framework reinforces Spain’s commitment to audiovisual innovation and guarantees that citizens can access a top-quality, free-to-air television experience.

Representatives from the Spanish Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration will once again attend the 4K HDR Summit to detail this new regulatory framework, as well as to highlight and report on the work being done in the sector.

The main drivers of UHD, protagonists at the 4K HDR Summit 2025

When talking about the promotion of Ultra High Definition, we must mention RTVE and UHD Spain. Both entities are playing a key role in the development and implementation of UHD in our country, leading pioneering projects in the production, broadcasting, and distribution of content in the highest quality. Their presence at the 4K HDR Summit will serve to share experiences, showcase advances, and reinforce Spain’s role as an international benchmark in the evolution of the audiovisual ecosystem.

In February 2024, TVE’s La 1 became the first DTT channel in the world to begin regular broadcasts in UHD, making Spain a world leader in broadcasting using this technology. The announcement of a top-quality, free-to-air television experience at the 4K HDR Summit 2023 by Víctor Sánchez, Director of Media and Operations at TVE, together with the then Director of Audiovisual Policies, Ángel García Castillejo, paved the way for the television of the future, not only at the national level, but also at the European and global levels. With 4K broadcasts in High Dynamic Range and immersive Dolby Atmos audio, TVE took the user experience to the highest quality, not only in its regular broadcasts, but also in a major sporting event such as the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the first coverage of a global event in the highest image and sound quality available on Spanish DTT.

The summit will host the UHD Spain General Assembly, which will be attended by representatives of the 34 companies that make up this association, which will celebrate its fifth anniversary in January 2026. Similarly, for another year, Spanish regional television stations (FORTA) and their technical directors will hold an in-person Technical Commission meeting to discuss technological advances in Ultra High Definition (UHD) and HDR (High Dynamic Range), which improve the quality of images reaching homes, as well as the exchange of 4K content and its future implementation within their internal communication networks.

The 4K HDR Summit 2025, “Where technology and content have time to talk,” is organized by Medina Media Events and supported by Appear, Ateme, RTVA, Elecard, AJA, Axion, Aicox with Small Pixels, Lawo, UWA, Rohde & Schwarz, SES, Eutelsat, Canon, Cellnex, Gsertel, Hispasat, Alfalite, Netgear, Synamedia, Mome, Datos Media, Sapec, and Vestel, among others.
